Pekingese Puppies

An ancient breed of dog, Pekingese are often called Lion Dogs due to their resemblance to representations of Chinese guardian lions.

Being toy dogs, Pekingese puppies are substantially smaller than lions, growing on average from 6″ to 9″ (15 to 23cm) tall and weighing between 6 to 12 pounds (2 to 6kg).

They come in various colours: red , fawn, brindle, black, white and parti colour.

Pekingese puppies have high maintenance coats, needing to be groomed daily paying attention to the ears and armpits to prevent mats and tangles.

Peke’s can adapt to any living environment so long as they have the company of their master.

If no garden is available, then they will benefit from a couple of short walks.

Pekingese puppies make excellent family pets, but will tend to pick a favourite member of that family for extra attention.

They are also happy in the company of other dogs as long as they are socialised from an early age.

More Information on Pekingese Puppies

The Pekingese breed is over 2000 years old, making it one of the most ancient breeds of dog.

This flat-faced and compact dog was often favoured by the Chinese Imperial Court.

Queen Victoria was presented with a Pekingese taken from the Imperial Palace in Peking, when it was abandoned during the Second Opium War in 1860.

But by the turn of that century, the Pekingese became more widespread in western countries, and is now a popular pet across the western world.
