German Shepherds also known as Alsatians are most commonly seen as police and guard dogs, but when properly trained can make ideal family dogs.
German Shepherd puppies grow to an adult height of 22″ to 26″ (56 to 66cm) tall and can weigh between 75 to 95 pounds (34 to 43kg).
German Shepherd puppies come in two coat types, short coated and long coated with colourings ranging from all black to all white to black and tan.
They have a double weatherproof coat.
Short coated German Shepherds on average need brushing once a week, and the long coated version ideally needs grooming daily.
German Shepherd puppies do not adapt well to apartment living but can do well in a town house with a reasonably sized garden but will still need to be walked daily, ideally with exercise time off the lead.
When trained and socialised from an early age German Shepherds can make a great family pet as they are loyal, even tempered and obedient.
