Japanese Akita Puppies
The Japanese Akita is the largest of the Japanese Spitz breeds as it can grow to 24″ to 26″ (61 to 66) tall and weigh between 75 to 120 pound (34 to 54kg). It has a double coat which is waterproof. The outer coat is harsh whereas the undercoat is thick but soft. They come in a variety of colours including pure white, red, sesame, brindle and fawn. Only bathe an Akita if absolutely necessary as it can take out the natural oils in the coat that makes it waterproof.
The Akita can adapt to apartment living if excercised regularly, although is best suited to a house with a large garden, but even with a large garden it will still need to be excercised daily.
The Akita responds best to a firm and confident owner as he can be very head strong and aggressive to other animals. It is best to start socialising and training them from an early age, although they will still need to be supervised with other family pets and children.

There are several indisputable examples within Japanese history relating to the ancestors of the Akita Inu which confirm the Japanese Akita as one of the oldest of dog breeds. The Akita of today has developed from dogs from Honshu, a Japanese island in the Akita prefecture. Typical quarry for the Akita would have included Wild Boar, Deer and the Black Bear. The Akita is swift, agile and particularly tenacious and the breed was trained to track large game and keep it at bay until the hunters arrived
During World War II, the number of Akita dogs diminished due to shortages of food. Additionally all dogs except German Shepherds were captured so that their fur could be used to make army uniforms. During the occupation following WW2, the Japanese Akita began to thrive again and at this time Akitas were bred for a standard appearance.
Akita Puppies were in demand as fanciers in Japan began exhibiting the remaining Akitas and producing litters of Akita Puppies in order to create a sustainable population. When US servicemen fell in love with the Japanese Akita many were imported into the US. Helen Keller is probably the most famous name associated with the Akita breed and she is credited with having introduced the Japanese Akita to America. In the years that followed the breed became noticed more and more widely and was exported to Europe and the United Kingdom.
So when you buy a Japanese Akita puppy from Dogs4us, you know that you are not only buying a puppy that has been lovingly reared and cared for, but also one with a proud tradition and a long history.
