Dogue De Bordeaux Puppies

Dogue de Bordeaux PuppiesThe imposing Dogue de Bordeaux was made famous when brought into the limelight by the film Turner and Hooch. The Bordeaux needs a confident owner with the time to train such a large dog, as they can grow to be 22″ to 26″ (58- 68cm) tall and can weigh between 99 to 110+ pounds (45 to 50kg or over) and are immensely powerful. The Dogue de Bordeaux is also known as the Bordeaux Mastiff, the French Mastiff, the Bordeaux Bulldog or simply as the Bordeauxdog.

Dogue de Bordeaux puppies come in two colours, red and fawn, but may have a red or black facial mask. The short coat is easily maintained but for dogs who have wrinkled faces, they may need wiping daily to avoid any soreness. Bordeaux’s do not adapt to apartment living, they are best suited to a large house as they can be clumsy and send furniture flying when over excited. It is also advised to have a large secure garden for them to play, but as an adult they will still need to go on daily walks to maintain good muscle. Puppies under the age of 2 years must not be exercised too vigorously as it can damage growing bones.

Dogue de Bordeaux’s can make great family pets but are probably better suited to a family with older children as they do not always realise how big they are and could quite easily knock a young child over.

More information about Dogue de Bordeaux Puppies

The Dogue de Bordeaux was known in Southern France in the fourteenth century in the Bordeaux region, hence, the name from which the name Dogue de Bordeaux is taken. However a standard Dogue de Bordeaux breed type did not exist before 1920. The French were careful to retain traditional breeding lines and black masks were considered an indication crossing with the English Mastiff. And key features of the pure Dogue de Bordeaux breed were the pink nose, lighter eye color (generally dark amber) with a red mask.

History of the Dogue de Bordeaux breed is believed to predate the Bullmastiff and the Bulldog. Some claim that the Dogue de Bordeaux originates from the Tibetan Mastiff although others believe that the breed is related to the Greco Roman molossoid dogs used for war. Others suggest that the Dogue de Bordeaux is a descendent of a breed which existed in ancient France.

The Dogue de Bordeaux was originally used as a hunting, herding and as a guardian. In the 1960s, a group of French Dogue de Bordeaux breeders rebuilt the foundation of the breed and a new standard was created. The Dogue de Bordeaux has flourished in recent years and they are frequently featured on television and in the movies. Their numbers are growing and they make wonderful pets as long as attention is paid to their health which, as is the case of all large dogs, is a factor unless they are well cared for.
