Bullmastiff Puppies

Bullmastiff puppies for saleThe Bullmastiff was originally bred from a Mastiff and a Bulldog (60% Mastiff and 40% Bulldog) but began to be noticed as a breed around 1924. They grow on average 24″ to 27″ (61 to 69cm) tall and weigh between 100 to 133 pounds(45 to 60kg). They have a short dense coat that does shed but can be easily maintained and only really needs bathing when dirty. They come in three colours brindle, fawn or red but all have a black mask.

Bullmastiffs can make great guard dogs, even though you will probably find them sleeping, they are fearless when provoked. When saying all this they are also good with children. They make a great family member who could get along with other family pets if socialized form an early age. The Bullmastiff can be a little head strong so the owner would need to be firm but patient. They can adapt to living in an apartment with a small garden as long as it gets at least one walk a day. They do not make very good outdoor dogs as they do not cope well with extreme temperatures.

Further information on the Bullmastiff

Bullmastiff puppies were first bred by gamekeepers in 19th century England to assist gamekeepers in looking after the security of country estates. Consequently the Bullmastiff has become known as the Gamekeeper’s Dog or the Gamekeeper’s Night Dog. As a cross between the Old English Bulldog and the stockily built English Mastiff, Bullmastiff’s become known for their strength and loyalty.

Bullmastiffs tend to bark significantly less frequently than other breeds of dog, but crucially they will generally bark on alarm. The Bullmastiff was recognised as a pure-bred dog in 1924 by the UK Kennel Club and later, in 1933, by the Kennel Club of America. An inaugural standard for the breed was approved in 1935 although naturally there have been several revisions since.
